The origin of Tower Vets can be traced back to the 1950s when Inglis Tulloch arrived in Sutton-on-the-Forest to live with his new family after selling his veterinary practice on the Isle of Wight.
Inglis was one of very few vets in the area and he soon found himself called out to farms to care for cattle and large animals.
He was joined by Alan Slee and the partnership based themselves at 168 Fulford Road, in York, next to the current surgery.
In 1960, two became three when Willie Anderson joined the practice and the day-to-day work continued to be mainly looking after large animals on farms and dairies.
It wasn’t long before new premises were needed and the trio bought 170 Fulford Road, which at the time was a derelict stables block.
As the business grew, two surgery sites were acquired in Heworth and Acomb and the team expanded to include Henry Robertson, John Fagan and Nic Howard.
When Willie retired as a partner, the practice changed its name to Tower Veterinary Group in October 2009 and soon after the practice bought out the Abbeyfields Veterinary Centre.
Over the years Tower Vets has developed from treating large animals to small animals, including cats, dogs and rabbits, mainly due to a reduction in the amount of cattle in the area – a general trend in rural areas across the region.
Our team is committed to providing quality, affordable care and treatment to your pet, who we consider to be a member of your family.
