Nigel qualified from Glasgow Veterinary School in 1986, and finished his Master's Degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Edinburgh Centre for Tropical Veterinary Medicine in 1992. Nigel worked from home & abroad with many a whole variety of animals until joining Tower Veterinary Group in 1998, and was one of the Director's of the company between 2001 & 2017, before becoming our Clinical Director.
Large animal veterinary work has always had a special place in Nigel's heart: he is solely responsible for our farm work caseload here at Tower Veterinary Group, but also helps with our small animal clients.
Whenever an exotic pet registers with ourselves, Nigel is our first port of call, as he loves being able to meet and treat all kinds of species of animals. He is mainly based at our Haxby practice, but you can sometimes find him at our Fulford practice on a Tuesday and Friday afternoon.
Lisa Winter RVN
Lisa qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2005 from a small animal practice in Scarborough, she began her career working in an equine practice in Hull, and achieved multiple qualifications in Business Management, before starting with the Tower Veterinary Group team in December 2017 as our Practice Manager.
She brings with her over twenty years of experience in Veterinary Practice to her role, along with three years experience in Business Consultancy within the Veterinary industry.
In addition to her responsibilities as our Practice Manager, She is also a public speaker within the Veterinary profession, inspiring Veterinary teams across the country on business, leadership and client communication.
Lisa has two children, Harry and Maisy; one dog, Missy the Collie cross Kelpie, Porky Corky the very cute cat; a Guinea Pig called and Ozzy; 10 chickens and not forgetting her lovely husband, Wez.
Alicia has been with us here at Tower Veterinary Group since November 2017 & in October 2018 took up the role of Senior Vet.
She enjoys all aspects of the role, but has a particular interest in complicated medical cases and dentistry, due to this you will find her at our Fulford Road practice. She has worked within the veterinary industry for many years, even before studying to become a vet at university, so she has a great understanding of the different roles that make a practice work, such as the Reception and Nursing teams.
She takes great pride in incorporating all of her experience into her role as one of our Senior Vets.
Alicia has two dogs, a lovely fox red Labrador called Amber, and was recently joined by a cheeky black Labrador named Oscar. Both dogs accompany her to work most days, so you might get the chance to meet them at our Fulford reception.
In her spare time Alicia enjoys swimming, spinning, yoga and spending time with her husband, dogs, family and friends.
Marina qualified from Latvia University of Agriculture, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2005, she then moved to UK in 2006 and has lived in the beautiful city of York ever since. She has worked in different small and exotic animal practices throughout Yorkshire, dealing with all aspects of veterinary medicine, but particularly developed deep interest in ultrasonography.
In 2019 she completed her post graduated certificate in diagnostic imaging through Improve international.
Currently Marina working hard to become an advanced practitioner in diagnostic imaging, started her post graduation studies with Harper Adams university.
Marina joined the team in January 2020 as another of our Senior Veterinary team. She is hoping to employ her experience and knowledge to provide an excellent service to pets and their owners, contributing to the success of Tower Veterinary Group.
Chris Featherstone BVMS, MRCVS
Chris graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2019 and came to Tower Veterinary Group as his first job after university.
He enjoys all companion animal work but loves dogs especially and is interested in canine cardiology and oncology. Soon he hopes to have a dog of his own!
Chris spends his free time running, visiting his family in Pickering or exploring York, a city he is really grateful to live in.

Senior Veterinary Nurse
After qualifying from Abbey House Veterinary Hospital in the spring of 2018, Lisa began her first position as a Qualified Veterinary Nurse at Tower Veterinary Group in April of the same year. She is based at our Fulford practice and her special interests at work are diagnostic imaging, orthopaedics and her huge passion for rabbit care.
Lisa loves to be kept busy, so enjoys helping out in every aspect of the practice with anything that needs doing, whether that be her daily duties as a Nurse; cleaning; helping our Reception team; or assisting our Vet's during their consultations. She is also a clinical coach to our Student Nurses'.
Lisa is very much a bunny lover, what she doesn't know about rabbits isn't worth knowing. She is the proud owner of 9 rabbits, they are a mixture of Lops and Dwarfs, their names are Angel, Bournville, Dora, Fergie, Isabelle, Lily, Roxy, Sundance & Whisper.
Linda McNulty RVN BVNA
Linda trained at Rodbaston Agricultural College in Stafford and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1998, she then joined the Tower Veterinary Group family as our Head Nurse in August 2015.
Her favourite parts of nursing are carrying out anaesthetics, dental's and running our nursing consultations. In November 2018 Linda started running our Fear Free and Weight Management consultations at our Fulford practice, she takes a great deal of pride and care within doing these consultations and loves to see the results of all her hard work pay off.
Linda also loves being able to provide crucial care and attention to pets as they move into their senior years, and is thoroughly enjoying building deeper connections with clients through these consultations. Another important aspect of Linda's role, and one which is very close to her heart, is end of life care, this is something that she strives to give owners and pets full supportive and emotional support at such a difficult time.
Linda doesn't have any pets at the moment, but is frequently visited by a family of Magpies, whom she has trained to fly into her garden for treats when she whistles! In her spare time she loves being in the outdoors and going on walks.
Becky Beal RVN
Becky trained as a Nurse at Askham Bryan College, and started her Nursing career in September 2000. She began working for Tower Veterinary Group when we took over Abbeyfields Vets. Becky is mostly based at our Haxby practice, but also covers our Acomb and Fulford practices.
Along with her responsibilities as a Nurse, Becky has also worked as a Clinical Coach. Her special interests at work include dentistry and large animals. She is hoping to start doing her own Nurse Consultations at our Haxby practice in the near future.
Her favourite part of her job as a nurse is getting to know the pets and their owners, it means a lot to her to be able to be there for them throughout their various life stages. She loves being able to see them grow from cheeky pups into wonderful golden oldies. She also thinks it's nice for our clients and pets to be greeted by a familiar face when they come to visit our Haxby practice.
Becky's interests outside of work included going rambling with her lovely Bedlington-Whippet cross, Ernie, camping, reading, going to the cinema and spending time with family and friends.
Lauren Loft RVN
Lauren trained in Australia originally as and equine nurse and later in small animals which she has now been working with for over 10 years.
Lauren Moved to the UK in 2016 where she has continued to follow her passion for Veterinary Nursing and recently joined the Tower Veterinary Group family after coming back from maternity leave.
Lauren has been involved with all aspects of Veterinary Nursing, her real passion is working with clients in consultations and getting to know the patients on a more personal level, this is a privilege and very rewarding.
When Lauren is not at work she takes every opportunity to get outside with her horse Harley or getting into the garden.
Lauren hopes that her baby daughter follows her love for all creatures great and small.
Megan Sutton RVN
Rebecca started working at Tower Veterinary Group as part of our Reception Team in the summer of 2016. In August of 2018 she took on the exciting challenge of becoming a Veterinary Nurse, and has qualified as of 2021, she has such a passion for animal care and can't wait to expand upon her knowledge of Veterinary care.
Rebecca has worked at all of our practices throughout York, but for her studies she will be based at our Fulford practice. She really enjoys working within a supportive, hard working team, especially within such a busy, fast paced environment. She is interested in developing her skills and knowledge in all areas of Veterinary Nursing, and although she adores all animals, cat's will always have an extra special place in her heart.
At home, Rebecca has three pets, Gandalf the Lionhead Rabbit, Seymour Butts the very handsome cat & Beans the fuzziest cat you will ever see!
Student Veterinary Nurse
Kate originally came to Tower Veterinary Group as a locum Veterinary Care Assistant in August 2018, but we liked her so much that she was offered a permanent position here two months later. Kate has a BSc Honours Degree in Animal Management and Science, and has worked with animals in a variety of roles before joining our team, including working as a Cat Career, a Nursing Assistant, and even as a Zookeeper, where she took care of a Tapir, Capybara, and a red Kangaroo!
She currently works at our Fulford practice, and is planning to start her Nursing qualification in September 2019.
Despite being interested in all aspects of Veterinary Care, Kate is especially keen to learn more about inpatient care and feline health, and she completed a course in January 2019 to become a Cat Friendly Veterinary Professional. Minimising stress for our patients when they visit us is Kate's number one priority at work, and her favourite part of the job is being able to comfort patients, even if this simply involves being able to give them a cuddle to show them that someone is there for them. For Kate, it is incredibly satisfying to be able to go home at the end of the day knowing that she's made one patient's life that little bit better; it's why she loves doing what she does.
At home, Kate looks after a beautiful cat, called Aurora, whom along with her brothers, she hand-reared from when they were only three days old. She is completely smitten with her, as well as her gentle Collie, Jack Russell and Dalmatian cross breed, Millie, and her snake called Mischief.
Student Veterinary Nurse
Jessica was thrilled to start working at Tower Veterinary Group in September 2018, as working within the Veterinary industry has always been her dream role. Before joining the team, Jessica was a Customer Service Manager, and she brings with her over five years of experience in customer facing roles. Jessica is based at our Fulford practice, where she started as our evening Receptionist, but as of September 2020 has started her training to become a qualified Veterinary Nurse.
Jessica has two dogs, Jewel the Dalmatian a Tilly the Working Cocker Spaniel, and three horses, Mattie an ex-racer, William a Thoroughbred-Irish Draught Cross, and Marmite the Shetland Pony, who loves going to agricultural shows during the summer. Outside of work, Jessica likes spending time with her partner and their little boy.
Veterinary Care Assistant
Jamie started working for Tower Veterinary Group in March 2014 as a Veterinary Care Assistant. During her time with ourselves she has completed certificates in Animal Care and has achieved a Level 3 Diploma in Canine Studies, a qualification that encompasses all things from canine genetics, to behaviours, to healthcare. She would also like to being a canine massage therapy course in the near future.
Jamie is based at our Fulford practice and helps to look after all of our inpatients. Her special interests at work are inpatient care, and her favourite part of working for Tower Veterinary Group is caring for our clients pets whilst they are recovering from procedures.
Outside of work Jamie spends time with her family and friends, Bikejoring and Caricross with her dogs. At home Jamie has a fair few pets to look after, these include her three dogs, Blaze the Alaskan Malamute, Ember the Husky and Dash the Labrador. There is also her Ragdoll cat, Hornblower and Zoomer the Guinea Pig.
Veterinary Care Assistant
Sarah qualified as a Nursing Assistant in 2008 from The College of Animal Welfare in Leeds, she has been part of the Tower Veterinary Group family since November 2005. Her working week is split between our Acomb and Fulford practices, where she helps with the Reception team in addition to her care duties.
Along with helping our clients and patients at our practices, Sarah is also responsible for arranging work experience placements for students who are hoping to work in the Veterinary industry in the future.
Sarah has a special interest in rabbit nutrition, and particularly enjoys the combination of helping and interacting with pets and their owners. Her favourite part of working here is when our clients are pleased with the service that they have received with their pets.
Outside of work, Sarah likes going for walks with her beautiful Jack Russell, Bramble, gardening and planning trips to The Lake District. She also enjoys watching films, her favourite is Shirley Valentine!
Veterinary Care Assistant
After spending the last 13 years in hotels, meetings and events, Amanda decided to take her love of customer service with her dream of working with animals to successfully join us as part of the Tower family.
Amanda is the ultimate dog person and loves seeing all breeds, of all ages come through the doors here at Tower. But her absolute favourite breed being Cocker Spaniels.
At home Amanda is kept busy with her own Cocker Spaniel, Norman. If they are not snuggled up on the sofa watching a movie or out on an adventure in Yorkshire then Amanda is probably chasing Norman around the house as he has stolen another sock!
In the future Amanda would like to study to become a Veterinary Nurse.
Veterinary Care Assistant
Laura came to join the Tower family after 8 years of working in the motor trade as a Service Advisor.
She wanted to pursue her passion of caring for animals as well as continuing to provide a great customer experience.
In her spare time Laura loves horse riding, which has been a passion since she was 6 years old. She is also a keen runner and fundraiser for many different charities in her spare time.
But if she manages to have a spare moment you'll find her out in the countryside walking with her husband, daughter and their dogs.
Laura is a member of her local Parish Council which she takes a great focus on making the local countryside a better place for everyone.
Laura & her family enjoy taking care of their many pets, which include Horses, Dogs, Cats, Pygmy Goats, Chickens, Rabbits & Guinea pigs.
Jane joined Tower Veterinary Group in October 2011 as the Reception Manager at our Fulford practice, a role she has worked very hard at for just over 7 years, before being offered the new position of our Dispensary Manager in January 2019.
With Jane's love of animals, both big and small, it made perfect sense for her to work in the Veterinary industry. Getting to cuddle all of the new puppies that come through our doors is certainly the highlight of Jane's working week. She also loves being able to organise the medications for our clients pet's, and enjoys the challenge of stock control.
Jane currently has three dogs, some of whom you may find on our Reception at our Fulford practice from time to time. There is Sid the Border Terrier, Rita the Patterdale Terrier and Suzy the Bulldog. She loves being able to take them all out on really long walks with her husband, especially if there is a nice country pub en route.
Tracy joined the Tower Veterinary Group family in April 2018 as an evening Receptionist at our Fulford practice, and then became full-time due to her love of the role. She loves working within the Veterinary industry and brings with her over 15 years of customer service and management experience.
Tracy has a great passion for animals and animal welfare, and has owned a variety of dogs breeds throughout the years, including Chinese Shar-Pei's, her favourite breed for over 20 years.
Tracy's main interests are attending dog shows to support her friends, (Tracy also used to own a Shar-Pei at Open and Championship level, and qualified and competed at Crufts 3 years running) dog walking, swimming, volunteering as a home checker for prospective adopters on behalf of a number of animal rescue charities, watching Motorsport (especially motorbikes), watching the rugby, reading and knitting.
Nurse / Receptionist
After finishing school, Mandy completed a BTEC National Diploma in Health Studies, whilst working in customer service alongside her studies. She then worked as a Student Nurse at York Teaching Hospital, where she was sent on various placements to different hospitals in the Yorkshire region. She also worked in different departments within York Hospital, such as Midwifery, Physiotherapy and accompanying Community Nurses on home visits, as well as to GP surgeries and schools.
In 1996 Mandy began working as Veterinary Nurse Assistant and Receptionist our Abbeyfields Veterinary Centre on Clarence Street, this was then taken over by Tower Veterinary Group in the mid 2000's. Since the closing of our Clarence Street practice in 2017, Mandy has been based at our Acomb practice.
Mandy's interest in the industry include Complementary Therapy, Dog Grooming, and helping owners through the difficult stages of Pet Bereavement. She is grateful to have been able to perform many Nursing duties over the years, including Monitoring Anaesthetics, running Nurse Clinics, and carrying out lab work. she also thoroughly enjoys being able to bring her skills and vast knowledge to be able to help our clients on the Reception. She has found it fascinating to witness Veterinary Medicine develop and change over the years, with the introduction of new medicines, more sophisticated technology, and an improved selection of treatment options.
Outside of work, Mandy enjoys dog walking with her lovely little Yorkshire Terrier, Daisy, cat sitting for friends, fundraising for Crohn's and Colitis whenever she can, and catching up with friends over coffee and lots of cake!
Christine began working for Tower Veterinary Group in May 2001, she was originally based at our Fulford practice, in 2009 Christine moved over to our Acomb practice, where she has been helping to keep the Reception running smoothly every since.
Christine's favourite part of the job is welcoming our clients and their pets into the practice, and assisting them with anything they need.
Two years after joining the Tower Veterinary Group family in 2014 as part of our Reception team, Anne took on the role of Claims Handler for the direct insurance cases. She has over 32 years of experience in the Insurance sector, having previously worked form many years as a Claims Manager for Aviva, and has an ACII qualification, along with a Diploma in insurance.
Her favourite parts of the job are being able to work efficiently to process the direct claims for clients, along with her constant and frequent interaction with clients, to keep them informed on the progress of their claims. Anne is also hoping to increase her knowledge and understanding or grief, and would like to work towards an accreditation for supporting owners with the bereavement of their pets.
Anne has two beautiful cats, Mika the Ragdoll and Oscar the handsome ginger gentleman. Her main interests outside of work mostly involve supporting charities. She is currently the Secretary for Dunnington Cancer Support Group and is also heavily involved with the auctions for them. She has also volunteered for various other organisations such as, St. Leonard's Hospice and Cruse Bereavement, whom she worked with for more than a decade.
Jean was a beloved member of the Receptionist team between 2007 and 2016. After being away from the practice for two years, she decided she missed us all too much, and returned to her Receptionist role at our Haxby practice in August 2018.
Her favourite thing about our Haxby practice is our lovely, spacious waiting room, where she can catch up with all of our clients and their pets. She loves being able to have a cuddle with the pets, whilst talking to their owners.
Jean has three lovely pets at home, a black Labrador called Favour, Alfie the black and white cat, and Harry the Appaloosa horse. She enjoys taking care of them and her family when she isn't busy working away at our Haxby practice.
Ruth started as a member of our Reception team in February 2017. She has over 15 years of experience working as a Receptionist role, having previously worked in a variety of workplaces, including the NHS, and estate agent, and a school, where she was the Reception Manager for two years. She has also previously worked as an Animal Assistant and Receptionist at The Canine Hydrotherapy Pool in Poppleton.
Working as a Receptionist within the Veterinary industry has always been Ruth'd dream job, and she cites being able to help client and their pets, working around animals, and working within a great team as some of her favourite aspects of working for Tower Veterinary Group.
No matter which of our practice you usually visit, you will have probably met Ruth, as she helps out on Reception across all of our practices. You are also likely to have met Dougie, her excitable Spaniel cross Labrador, who comes with her everywhere she goes. At home, Ruth is also a proud mum to Rambo, a very cute Tabby cat.
Sally has over thirty years of experience in Administrative roles, and has been a Receptionist with Tower Veterinary Group since 2015.
Sally finds it really rewarding to be able to help our client's through all stages of their pet's lives, and loves working alongside a great team. Sally studied at The University of Life, and is grateful for the opportunities to continually study and develop her skills working here.
Outside of work, Sally enjoys gardening, dog training, and walking with her two dogs, Charlie the Fox red Labrador and Arthur the Hungarian Vizsla.
